About Afghanistan
Afghanistan is located in Central Asia, and is bordered by Pakistan, and Iran. Landscape in this country consists of vast dry deserts and beautiful mountain ranges. with the majority of Afghanistan being barren, only 20% of the land is used to cultivate and harvest food. Due to this, most people live in valleys between mountain ranges, as soil in these areas is the most fertile. This 652,230 square kilometre country has 2 distinct seasons: Summer and Winter. The summer months in Afghanistan are dry and hot, while Winter temperatures drop, making the climate very cold. Though most wildlife has become extinct due to hunting and war, the country still has an abundance of the vibrant blue stone, called lapis lazuli.
The population of Afghanistan is 31,822,848, which is divided into the Pashtun, Hazara, Tajik and Uzbek people. The countries demographics are approximately 38% Pashtun, 25% Tajik, 19% Hazara and 6% Uzbek. Quality of life in Afghanistan is based upon the caste system, in which Pashtun people are considered most elite, and Hazara people are classified as the lowest caste. After years of corruption and war,Afghanistan has finally been able to dilute the destruction and maintain order, and the current president of the country is Hamid Karzai. In addition, Afghanistan consists of 34 provinces, and Kabul is the capital of the country.
